The husband of a woman allegedly shot dead by a police officer in Eldoret has broken his silence, saying he struggles to find words to describe what his family is going through following the devastating loss.
Nelson Kama confirmed that his wife, Doris Murei, a nurse aged 45, was killed on the evening of Monday, August 31, 2026, at the Naiberi General Service Unit mess compound near the Eldoret State Lodge.
He said their children, who are based in Nairobi and Maseno, have been left deeply traumatised by the news of their mother’s death.
Police identified the suspect as Police Constable Nathan Kirwa, attached to Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii’s security detail.
How many times was Doris Murei shot?
Kirwa allegedly shot Murei multiple times following an altercation at the compound before fleeing the scene. Officers subsequently tracked him down, apprehended him and recovered his firearm.
Murei’s body was transferred to Eldoret Hospital Mortuary, where a postmortem examination is set to be conducted to support the ongoing investigations into the circumstances of her death.
Reports linking the killing to a suspected love triangle have drawn widespread attention to the case, though investigators are yet to confirm the motive officially.
