Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna has confronted Nairobi OCS for okaying the teargassing of Azimio la Umoja demonstrators at KICC.
Sifuna and other Azimio MPs questioned the OCS why he had instructed the police to throw tear gas at peaceful protesters. The OCS, who didn’t want to listen to the leaders, had to find refuge inside the KICC building, but Sifuna and his team still followed him.
“OCS stop running away from Kenyans. Why are you teargassing us? What have we done? We are elected leaders you need to listen to us,” an angry Sifuna said as the OCS tried to dodge them. When the OCS stopped to address the leaders, he hurriedly told them he was only enforcing the orders.
Speaking later, the Nairobi senator vowed that demonstrations will continue for the whole day. “I have taken tear gas, but these things will not scare us. We are going to be here the whole day, we must accomplish our mission,” he said.

In a related development, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua castigated the government over the deployment of anti-riot police officers to confront the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party protesters.
In a tweet, Karua accused President William Ruto’s government of using force on people taking part in demonstrations called by the ODM leader Raila Odinga. “The illegitimate Ruto regime cannot suspend the right to the peaceful procession and unleash a reign of terror on Kenyans. We must continue to resist until we restore our constitutional order,” Karua said. Karua, who is yet to join the demonstrators, wondered why the police were arresting innocent Kenyans, among them boda boda riders in Nairobi Central Business district.
“Why harass boda boda riders earning their daily bread in a battered economy? The actions of police today reveal that this illegitimate regime is scared of citizens,” she added.
