Edwin Sifuna Says House with Over 4 Bedrooms Is Unnecessary

A resurfaced video of Senator Edwin Sifuna is making the rounds online after he shared some surprisingly candid views on money, housing and what he considers a comfortable life.

In the clip, Sifuna was speaking during an interview with media personality Andrew Kibe, where the conversation turned to corruption and why public officials choose to steal despite earning decent salaries.

What did Sifuna say about huge mansions?

Sifuna did not hold back when asked about his own earnings and how he manages them.

“My salary is KSh 1 million. I pay KSh 300,000 in taxes and remain with KSh 700,000. I pay my mortgage and the remaining I have a bit of fun,” he said.

When Kibe asked whether Sifuna had a family, the senator confirmed he did, before making a broader point about ambition and greed.

“Why steal? Where will you take all that? That money is good — you get a mortgage and you can buy a house,” he said.

He argued that a four-bedroom home is more than sufficient for any family and questioned the logic of chasing something far beyond what anyone actually needs.

“You have a house and your kids are in school. How much is enough? What will you do with a 12-bedroom house? It’s too much,” Sifuna said.

His argument was simple: if you earn a reasonable salary, pay your bills, keep your children in school and have a roof over your head, there is little justification for wanting more, let alone stealing to get it.
