Tragic news from Zimbabwe: a bus carrying Anglican pilgrims en route to an annual gathering caught fire, resulting in the loss of eight lives and leaving over 50 others injured, with 14 individuals hospitalized.
Police spokesman Paul Nyathi indicated that the fire was so severe that eight individuals were “burnt beyond recognition,” making identification challenging.
Additionally, two people remain unaccounted for, and efforts to determine the cause of the fire are ongoing.
The tragic incident occurred as the churchgoers were returning to Manicaland province from the Bernard Mizeki Annual Festival in Marondera.
This significant gathering draws over 20,000 attendees from around the world each year.
As investigations into the accident continue, authorities are working to determine the cause of the fire and gather more details surrounding the devastating incident.
Reverend Edwin Selemani of the Anglican Church in a statement that he wished “healing to the injured and comfort to the bereaved”.
“May God grant rest to the souls of the departed,” he said.
