The week-long event, to be held at the University of Eldoret, will bring together government officials, tourism investors, technology companies, innovators, scholars, conservationists and members of the public.
This year’s theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” will focus on the application of emerging technologies in destination marketing, customer engagement, business development and tourism management.
Tourism Principal Secretary Julius Bitok said the programme would provide opportunities for participants to explore tourism attractions and experiences in Eldoret and the wider North Rift.
“We have lined up many interesting activities to not only see but to actively participate in. We invite everyone to visit Eldoret and the greater North Rift to sample the glory of the true home of champions,” Bitok said.
The programme will include training sessions on the use of digital technologies and AI for tourism stakeholders, including micro, small and medium enterprises, tour operators, hoteliers, tour guides, youth and community-based tourism enterprises.
Participants will also be exposed to digital tools for content creation, destination promotion and market intelligence, while innovators and tourism enterprises will showcase products and technologies at exhibitions.
Organisers also plan road trips and a destination caravan to tourism sites across the North Rift, with participants expected to interact with local communities and businesses and experience the region’s tourism products.
The activities will include cultural and sports experiences, hot-air balloon rides and visits to entertainment venues in Eldoret, alongside initiatives aimed at promoting the region to international visitors.
The event will also feature discussions and activities on environmental conservation and sustainable tourism, including tree-growing and clean-up exercises.
The government hopes the week will help raise the profile of the North Rift as a tourism destination while demonstrating how digital innovation can create new opportunities for tourism businesses and communities.
The event will bring together tourism and technology stakeholders to explore how emerging technologies can be applied to strengthen Kenya’s tourism sector and expand the range of destinations and experiences available to visitors.
