Real Madrid goalkeeper, Thibaut Courtois has hailed Liverpool supporters for applauding Karim Benzema and Luka Modric during their Champions League round of sixteen clash on Tuesday.
Real Madrid came from two goals down to thrash Liverpool 5-2 at Anfield.
Benzema was in top form during the game, scoring twice and registering an assist.
Modric also put in a strong display and provided an assist and Reds fans paid tribute to both players at full-time.
Courtois has now met Liverpool in more than two Champions League games but was quick to point out that this was the first time he had visited Anfield with fans in the stands as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He was pleased with the reception Benzema and Modric received from the home supporters.
“It’s my first time playing Champions League football at Anfield when fans are in the stadium.
“The fact that there was applause from Liverpool supporters for Luka and Karim just proves that people here know how to appreciate guys who are great players,” he said.
