Comedic philanthropist Eric Omondi has won fresh admiration online after his partner, Lynne Njihia, opened up about the lengths he went to during her hospital stay following the birth of their daughter.

Appearing on a podcast, Lynne painted a picture of a man who refused to leave her side, even when it meant sleeping in his car in the hospital car park rather than going home for the night.

How Eric Omondi supported Lynne after giving birth

Lynne recalled that Eric was her primary caregiver throughout her recovery, stepping in for tasks that many might shy away from.

“He is the only person who used to help me with showering and even relieving myself. He used to stay at the hospital 24/7,” she said.

She went on to describe his unusual but touching routine.

“He used to sleep in the car, then come check on me even in the middle of the night, then he goes back to the car, then comes in the morning and makes sure I had breakfast — he helped me use the washroom and shower, then check on the baby. He used to rotate between the car and the hospital ward.”

The level of dedication she described clearly resonated with listeners, many of whom were moved by the image of one of Kenya’s most recognisable entertainers quietly keeping vigil in a car park just to stay close to his growing family.
