Police in Thika have arrested a 25-year-old student from Tom Mboya University in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, 19-year-old Faith Musembi.
David Kioko was apprehended after preliminary investigations suggested that he killed Faith over alleged infidelity. Both the suspect and the victim hail from Machakos County.
The slain first-year student at Mt. Kenya University was eight months pregnant at the time of her death and her lifeless body was discovered last week by her father in her rented room in Pilot Estate, Thika.
Thika Police boss Lawrence Muchangi confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect is currently being held for interrogation.
“We have the main suspect in custody and are conducting thorough investigations. The DCIO is on that matter and the suspect will be produced in court soon,” Muchangi told Citizen Digital.
The gruesome discovery has left the family in shock, with distress calls for swift justice echoing through Machakos, Thika and beyond.
Faith’s parents, devastated by the loss of their daughter and unborn grandchild, are calling for justice.
“We want the authorities to ensure that the person responsible for this heinous act is punished to the fullest extent of the law,” said Musembi’s father, Boniface Musembi.
An autopsy conducted at the Thika General Kago Funeral Home, where the girl’s body is lying, indicated that she succumbed due to excessive bleeding.
The report indicated that she had bleeding in the uterus caused by abruptio placenta (the placenta had detached itself leading to excessive bleeding).
