Police officers in Nyamira South are investigating the death of a one-month-old girl, whose body was found in a well near their home on Monday.

According to the area assistant chief Joseph Mong’are, the toddler’s mother Rael Ongaga went to the shop and left her child sleeping on the bed.

However, when she returned home, her child missing without a trace. She immediately started searching for the baby with the help of neighbours.

The found her in a well located 200 metres from the house.

The assistant chief confirmed the incident, saying the baby’s father Musa Onganga has been detained in connection to the incident.

Mong’are said police are probing Onganga since he was the one left with the child when his wife went to the shop.
