Police in Gatundu South Constituency, Kiambu County, are holding a 33-year-old suspect, identified as Gabriel Gachuhi, at Gatundu Hospital after he allegedly killed his three-year-old son, James Gachuhi, by slitting his throat on Tuesday night.

The incident has plunged residents of Kari-ini village in Kiamworia, Gatundu South, into mourning following the tragic death of the young boy.

The suspect is also alleged to have attempted to take his own life by stabbing himself in the neck with a knife, but survived and is currently receiving treatment under police guard.

According to residents, the suspect had been separated from his wife for the past six months. They said the child’s grandfather had invited the boy to spend two days at his home.

However, as the child was being returned to his mother’s home, the suspect allegedly forcefully took the boy from the boda boda before carrying out the fatal attack.

Confirming the incident, Gatundu South Deputy Police Commander Isaac Gathiaka said the suspect is being treated at Gatundu Hospital while in police custody.
