Former CS Matiang’i to face 2 charges over Karen home raid claims

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) now intends to charge former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i in court for claiming that police raided his home on February 9.

According to a cautionary statement seen by Citizen Digital, Dr. Matiang’i is set to be charged with conspiracy to commit a felony.

According to a cautionary statement seen by Citizen Digital, Dr. Matiang’i is accused that “between 8th February and 9th February 2023 at Karen View Estate within Nairobi, with intent to cause panic, chaos or violence among citizens of the Republic of Kenya jointly with another published in the media that your house had been raided by a battalion or Garisson of Police Officers intending to arrest you a fact you knew to be false.”

The former CS is also faced with a second county of publication of false information contrary to section 23 of the computer misuse and cybercrimes Act No. 5 2018.

Matiang’i remained holed up at the DCI headquarters since 8am Tuesday where he honoured summons by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over his Karen home raid claims.

His legal team however insists that they have anticipatory bail orders and will not allow their client to be detained unnecessarily.
