Four people were Tuesday arraigned in a Kirinyaga court for being in possession of donkey carcasses and slaughtering 30 donkeys.
The four, Michael Nyoro, Festus Ndung’u Kamande, Peter Ndirangu and John Muturi, were arraigned before Baricho Law Courts Senior Principal Magistrate Stephen Nyaga.
They were charged that on May 18, 2024, jointly with others not before the court at around 10 am at Makutano area within Kirinyaga County they were found in possession of donkey carcasses which were in an unwholesome state and unfit for use in contravention to the Public Health Act.
They were also charged with being in possession of uninspected meat that is unfit for human consumption contrary to section 8 as read with section 14 of the Meat Control-Local Slaughterhouse and Cruel Slaughtering of Animals contrary to section 8 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
The four pleaded not guilty to all the counts and were granted a bond of Ksh.1 million with a surety of a similar amount.
The case is set for mention on June 6, 2024.
