Garissa man arrested over TikTok video inciting Muslims against non-Muslims

A Garissa-based suspect accused of making inciteful remarks in a viral TikTok video has been released on a Ksh.200,000 cash bail or alternative Ksh.500,000 bond.

The accused, who was presented before the Garissa Law Courts on Thursday, July 2, was charged with ethnic and racial contempt and cyber harassment contrary to the law.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Abdi Hassan Abdullahi, alias Sharu, uploaded a TikTok video on April 23, 2026, where he allegedly incited the Muslim Community in Garissa County against non-Muslims.

Following his arrest on May 16, 2026, the suspect was arraigned before the Courts, where he pleaded not guilty to both charges and was subsequently released.

The matter is scheduled for pre-trial proceedings on July 20, 2026.

The DCI appealed to the public to use social media responsibly and lawfully by avoiding posts that incite hatred, discrimination or public disorder.

“Social media platforms should be used responsibly, and anyone who uses them to commit criminal offences will be investigated and brought before the courts in accordance with the law,” the DCI stated.
