Former Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria is currently receiving hospital care after falling ill unexpectedly during an evening meeting in Nairobi on Thursday, October 29.
Duke Mainga Echate shared the news of his admission publicly, as he was present when Mosiria’s health deteriorated.
Echate said he rushed Mosiria to hospital together with activist Morara Kebaso and a colleague identified as Mirina.
“This evening, together with Hon Morara Kebaso and Hon Mirina, we accompanied our brother Geoffrey Mosiria KE to the hospital after he suddenly fell ill during our meeting in Nairobi,” Echate wrote, wishing Mosiria a swift recovery.
The specific nature of Mosiria’s illness has not been disclosed.
Sakaja fires Mosiria days before hospitalisation
The timing of his admission has drawn attention, as it follows closely on the heels of his dismissal from the Nairobi county government.
Governor Johnson Sakaja signed a circular on October 21, removing Mosiria from his position as Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service. Zipporah Njeri Mwangi was subsequently named to fill the role in an acting capacity.
In the days following his removal, Mosiria had been publicly active on social media, reflecting on his tenure at the county. He spoke about overseeing efforts to keep Nairobi’s central business district clean and also claimed he had attempted to halt night construction at a building along 9th Street in Eastleigh that later collapsed on October 23.
A video circulating online under the watermark @NAIROBI\_JUICE shows what appears to be indoor hospital footage, with on-screen text confirming his admission. The clip, set to a gospel track with the lyrics “From the moment that I wake up, until I lay my head, oh I will sing of the goodness of God,” shows a group of visitors gathered around a hospital bed.
Wishing Mosiria a quick recovery
The circumstances leading to his sudden illness remain unclear, and no official statement from the county government or his family has been issued at this point. His supporters and those who shared the news online have extended their well-wishes to him as he recovers.
