‎Two young brothers from Githurai are grappling with an unimaginable weight of grief after losing both parents within months of each other, and they now face the painful prospect of being unable to give their mother a dignified send-off.

‎Their father died in May this year. Their mother followed on October 25, leaving behind a hospital bill of KSh 1.5 million that the brothers have no means of settling.

‎Because the bill remains unpaid, they have been unable to arrange her burial. The two young men had been living with their parents in a rented house in Githurai, but rent has gone unpaid for the entire year.

‎When did Githurai brothers finish high school?

‎Following their mother’s death, the landlord issued an eviction notice, adding a housing crisis to an already devastating situation. It is unclear where they will go once they are forced out.

‎Both brothers completed secondary school in recent years, one sitting his Form Four examinations last year and the other finishing in 2024.

‎Each had hoped to pursue university education, but financial hardship made that impossible even before their parents fell ill.

‎Githurai brothers reportedly left alone

‎What has deepened their isolation is the near-total absence of support from those closest to them.

‎Relatives on their father’s side reportedly cut ties with the family after his death, and neighbours, though sympathetic, have been unable to offer meaningful assistance.

‎The brothers have been left to face their circumstances largely alone.

‎Their most urgent need is funding to clear the hospital bill so that their mother can be released and given a proper burial.

‎Beyond that, they need help with rent and their own futures, including the university education they have long deferred.

‎The brothers are now appealing directly to well-wishers across Kenya to come to their aid before their situation deteriorates further.
