A mother’s quiet resolve to provide for her children, even while carrying her infant on her back, has drawn an outpouring of support from strangers who came across her story online.

Jumba Martha, 33, from Rundu, Namibia, had been collecting discarded cans and hauling them to a local scrap yard to earn money, doing so with her four-month-old daughter strapped to her back. A post by Namibian Sun capturing her daily hustle caught the attention of many readers and set off a chain of generosity.

Reinhard Moyo Steps In

Reinhard Moyo was among those who saw the post and felt compelled to act. He said Martha’s story and her unwavering determination to care for her children moved him deeply.

Moyo subsequently reached out and donated groceries and basic necessities, giving the family some much-needed relief.

He was not alone. A second Good Samaritan, based in Windhoek, also contributed to support Martha and her baby. Martha, who is currently unemployed, is actively looking for work, including domestic employment. Those willing to offer her a job or any further assistance are encouraged to reach out to her directly.
