Haiti National Police Director General Frantz Elbe on Wednesday met Kenya’s Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome in Nairobi.
According to the National Police Service, Elbe is leading a Haitian delegation on a three-day official visit to Kenya for bilateral security discussions between the two law enforcement agencies.
Parliament on November 16 approved the deployment of 1,000 police officers to Haiti in a U.N.-approved mission aimed at helping the Caribbean nation tackle gang violence.
In July, Kenya pledged to offer troops after Haiti appealed for international help with security personnel to assist in its battle against gangs blamed for spiralling violence.
According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, the deployment will cost $241,390,961 (Ksh. 36,570,730,591), which will be will be obtained from UN member states.
Other nations such as The Bahamas, Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda have also pledged help for the mission.
