A Milimani court has closed the file of Halima Ngache, who was being investigated for tracking President William Ruto’s flights.

Halima was under investigation after she was arraigned over claims of publishing information on Ruto’s flights through an X account.

When the matter came up for further directions today, on Monday, July 6, 2026, the prosecution informed the court that they had not completed their investigations into the matter.

The court heard that the investigative team needed more time to complete the forensic examinations on her devices.

“Your honour, we sought court orders under a miscellaneous application, seeking orders to allow us to conduct a forensic examination on electronic devices which were recovered from the respondent (Halima),” the prosecution submitted to the court.

“Your Honour, the orders were granted the same day, and forensic examination has started. It should be completed before the end of this week and a report on that examination will inform the next course of these investigations. We are seeking for more time to allow us to complete investigations,” the prosecution added.

However, the defence team vehemently opposed the application, arguing that the prosecution had not filed a formal application seeking the extension of time to complete the investigations.

Notably, Halima’s lawyers, led by Ian Mutiso, also challenged the legality of the seizure of the electronic device, arguing that it was confiscated without a valid search warrant.

Senior Principal Magistrate Teresia Nyangena has denied the prosecution the extra time they were seeking and closed the miscellaneous application file and also ordered that Halima be released.

The ruling comes days after the High Court ordered that she be released from custody on Friday, July 3, 2026, by 5 pm after she moved to the upper court, challenging the legality of her arrest, detention and seizure of her electronic devices.
