A 24-year-old woman from Arusha has allegedly lost her life following an incident outside a popular city club, leaving her family devastated and police searching for answers.
Irene Mallya, a resident of Lemara Street, Lemara Ward in Arusha City, Tanzania, reportedly died after sustaining injuries allegedly inflicted with a bottle on September 13, 2026, near the entrance of The HUB club in Arusha.
She had been out with friends when the incident allegedly occurred at around 4 pm.
Family Receives Conflicting Accounts
Her mother, Mariam Selemani, recalled how the devastating news reached her. Two of Irene’s friends came to the family home early on September 14 at approximately 6 am to report that her daughter had been injured and transported to hospital.
When Mariam pressed for details, she said the accounts she received kept changing.
“We spoke to her in the evening and agreed that she would bring her child in the morning because she had gone to a club. I was told by her friends that she had been injured, and when they took her to hospital, that was where they were told that she had passed away,” the grieving mother said.
One version of events suggested Irene had been caught up in a fight, while another indicated she had been found bleeding on the ground after allegedly stepping in to separate a brawl involving her companions.
Rehema Ramadhan, who raised Irene from childhood, described her as a peaceful young woman who had no quarrels with anyone.
Mariam echoed that sentiment through tears: “She was a good child; she had no problems with anyone. She was my firstborn and she helped me a lot. I don’t understand what happened, honestly.”
Police Collect CCTV Footage from The HUB
When journalists from Kusaga TV visited The HUB, staff members confirmed that the club manager had left the premises accompanied by police, who had reportedly come to retrieve CCTV footage to assist their investigation.
Reached by phone, a manager identified as Paulo acknowledged that the incident had taken place, but insisted it occurred outside the club’s gate rather than on the premises.
Police have since launched a full investigation into the circumstances of Irene’s death.Two individuals who were reportedly in her company that night are currently being held for questioning as authorities work to establish exactly what transpired.
