Two Kenyan men have captured the hearts of thousands online after a video surfaced showing them taking care of a baby giraffe they allegedly found wandering alone in the bush, with the calf now reportedly having been in their company for more than a week.

The footage shows the pair moving through the bush in single file, the young giraffe sandwiched between them as it trails along quite comfortably.

At one point, one of the men places a yellow cap on the calf’s head, a gesture that drew equal parts laughter and adoration from viewers. The animal appeared relaxed and at ease with its unusual companions.

What Happened to the Baby Giraffe

The full circumstances of how the calf came to be separated from its herd remain unclear. It is not known whether its mother is nearby, whether the men reported the matter to any wildlife authority, or how the situation has since developed.

Wildlife experts generally advise caution in such situations.

Baby giraffes can be highly vulnerable when separated from their mothers, and authorities like the Kenya Wildlife Service typically assess each case to determine whether a calf requires rescue or whether it can be safely reunited with its group.

Social media users react to clip of baby giraffe following 2 men

Once the video began circulating, social media users were quick to share their thoughts, with responses ranging from humorous to genuinely concerned.

FluffyChess Ruwa:

“Girraffe wearing a cap is a whole new uncharted territory.”

Charoty Baloyi:

“I think the giraffe made friends with stray people because that giraffe is in its natural habitat but them people are out of place.”

Naomi Muthoni:

“KWS should give these two a job. They can take care of the animals well.”

Pape Phethego Blessing:

“It looks like they are taking their temporary friend to a local tavern for a few drinks and a little stroll in a village, before releasing him/her, hoping mum was not eaten by lions.”

Mhesh Gachagua:

“Those saying the mother must have been eaten by Lions should know that Lions can only attack a full-grown giraffe if they are out of options. The simple case here is that this giraffe just got a bit misplaced by it’s herd and when these good-intending guys found it, they misplaced it even more.”

Van Mwarabu:

“These guys were about to strike fortune if they would have gotten the right cap and a very appealing content hivi ndio kina githeri man waliomoka and that is Kenya is not ranked among the top countries in Africa with unemployment rate, because ata msee mwenye anomba kwa street ako kazi.”

Whether the men have since notified Kenya Wildlife Service or made arrangements for the calf’s welfare remains to be seen, but for now, their unexpected bond with the young giraffe has given the internet something to smile about.
