A young man from Homa Bay County has captured the attention of Kenyans online after penning a heartfelt handwritten letter to his county governor, appealing for help to fulfil his dream of serving in the Kenya military.
Samson Miko, a resident of Kanjira village in Karachuonyo, addressed his letter to Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, dated September 2, 2025, and shared it on Facebook on September 3, 2026.
Miko shares his mottos in letter
In the letter, he laid out his case plainly: he has tried twice to join the military and failed, not for lack of commitment, but for lack of support and guidance.
Miko’s letter made clear that repeated failure had not broken his spirit. He described maintaining a strict daily training routine, driven by discipline he hopes will one day carry him into uniform.
His letter included several personal mottos that gave a vivid sense of his determination, among them: “I have failed twice, but my dream has not died,” and “Discipline today, soldier tomorrow. For God and my country.”

He closed with the rallying phrases “God – discipline – patience – success” and “Kenya is calling,” lending the letter the tone of a personal manifesto as much as an appeal.
