The former deputy chairman of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Kipruto Kirwa, now says he has left the party because of “toxicity” within the party.

Speaking on TV station K24 on Thursday, Jan. 12, the former agriculture minister said the party could not survive without President William Ruto.

“I don’t know if UDA would survive without William Ruto. One of the reasons I left UDA was because things were very toxic within the inner circle, so I joined my colleagues at Azimio,” he said on the program.

Kirwa said that while he joined Azimio and the Umoja-One Kenya coalition, he did not join any individual party that formed the organization.

“I joined Azimio, but I did not join a single party. I believe that we also have a role to play in the opposition, this is our country, and we can criticize, but in a meaningful way,” he explained.

At the same time, Kirwa blamed the government for Raila Odinga’s defeat in the August 9, 2022 presidential election.
