National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah amplified his political rhetoric on Sunday, urging President William Ruto to “shake off the viper on your hand.”
Speaking during a church service in Embakasi West, Nairobi County, Ichung’wah referenced a biblical passage to illustrate the challenges President Ruto is facing in his leadership.
“When we read in Acts 3:28, Apostle Paul arrived in Malta after a shipwreck, and as they were building a fire, a snake wrapped itself around his hand,” Ichung’wah said. “Looking at that story, I see parallels with what the President has gone through. He inherited an economy in ruins, and just as he was ready to provide warmth for Kenyans, a viper coiled around his hand.”
The Kikuyu MP encouraged the President to ignore his political adversaries and focus on delivering his promises. “Take heart. No matter the names you’re called or the insults thrown at you, guide this country to safety,” he said. “Don’t fear, shake off the snake. That viper in your government, shake it off—not just to protect yourself, but so your hand can fulfill the purpose the Lord intended.”
Ichung’wah has consistently criticized those he believes are obstructing President Ruto’s progress. His comments also seemed to target Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, as political tensions in the Mt. Kenya region continue to rise.
For weeks, Ichung’wah has issued strong warnings against “leaders who seek to divide the nation based on tribe, color, or religion,” linking them to the political unrest in the region. This comes amid speculation that DP Gachagua has been rallying regional leaders for support, claiming some individuals are trying to convince President Ruto to politically sideline him.
