Speaking after receiving their nomination certificates, the candidates pledged to conduct peaceful campaigns as political competition intensifies, particularly among candidates from the DCP, UDA and Jubilee parties.
A convoy led by DCP candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho made its way to the IEBC offices in Ol-Kalou, Nyandarua County, where he successfully presented his nomination papers before being issued with his clearance certificate.
Addressing his supporters shortly after, Ngotho promised sweeping reforms if elected as the next Member of Parliament for Ol-Kalou.
“You will no longer have to queue for bursary forms for your children. The money will be sent directly to schools,” he pledged.
UDA candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah was also cleared to vie in the race. Accompanied by senior leaders from the ruling party, Nyagah promised residents diligent leadership and development if elected.
The Jubilee Party is also seeking to retain the seat previously held by former MP David Kiaraho, who was elected on a Jubilee ticket in the 2022 General Election.
People’s Renaissance Movement candidate Timothy Kamau drew attention after arriving at the IEBC offices while riding on a donkey, a dramatic entrance that excited supporters gathered at the venue. He later used the moment to campaign and present himself as the face of a new political wave in the constituency.
Other candidates cleared by the IEBC include Edwin Muchiri of PNU, Stephen Wanyoike of the National Liberal Party (NLP), Rachael Njoroge, Edward Mwaniki of the Kenya Moja Movement, and Abdifatah Hussein of the Federal Party of Kenya.
The clearance exercise now ushers in the official campaign period, with a fierce political battle expected between UDA and DCP as both parties seek to prove their dominance in the Mt Kenya region.
