IEBC hits 75% of target as enhanced voter registration ends Tuesday

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) says it has hit 75 per cent of its target in the ongoing enhanced continuous voter registration exercise, which is set to end on Tuesday.

In its latest update, the commission said it had registered 1,876,274 new voters since the exercise began on March 30, representing 75 per cent of the 2.5 million target for the current phase.

IEBC said 505,344 new voters were registered between April 17 and April 23.

As of April 24, Nairobi was leading with more than 209,000 new registrations, followed by Kiambu (about 97,000) and Nakuru (about 81,000). Kakamega, Machakos and Bungoma were also among counties with high numbers.

Lamu recorded the lowest turnout at 8,345, with low registration also reported in Isiolo and Mandera. Counties including Homa Bay, Kisumu, Siaya and Nyamira registered between 33,000 and 40,000 new voters.
