On Saturday, World No. 1 Iga Świątek secured her third consecutive French Open title with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over Italy’s Jasmine Paolini. This win, which marks Świątek’s fifth Grand Slam crown and fourth at Roland Garros, reaffirms her status as a clay court powerhouse, extending her unbeaten streak at the tournament to 21 matches.
Świątek’s achievement makes her the first woman since Justine Henin in 2007 to claim three consecutive French Open titles. Despite Paolini initially breaking her serve and taking a surprise lead in the first set, Świątek swiftly turned the tide, winning the next 10 games in a row to secure victory in just an hour and eight minutes.
Throughout the tournament, Świątek’s dominance has been evident, dropping only 17 games across her past five matches. While she faced a match point against Naomi Osaka in the second round, Świątek displayed resilience and rallied to secure the win, maintaining her momentum throughout the tournament.
Having won titles in Madrid, Rome, and now Paris, Świątek’s remarkable form culminated in another triumph at Roland Garros, solidifying her position as one of the most formidable players on the clay court circuit.
In the final, she hit 18 winners, wrapped up three game to love, and faced only one break point.
“I love this place, I wait every year to come back here,” Świątek said in her on-court interview. “I was almost out of the tournament in the second round so thank you for staying with me, it’s been a really emotional tournament. To everyone at home, my sister, my family, my sponsors – thank you for the constant support.”
Paolini, meanwhile, was comprehensively outhit by Swiątek on Court Philippe-Chatrier
