In a posta tie, KCB’s Mwalala is aiming for maximum points

The “motivated” Kenyan Premier League side KCB FC is set to return to action this weekend against seventh-placed Posta Rangers FC at the Police Sacco Stadium, aiming for a strong finish to the league season.

The Bankers have shown remarkable form in the FKF Cup, defeating Kariobangi Sharks 4-2 on penalties before the recent international break, and are now preparing for a final showdown against Police FC later this month.

Head coach Bernard Mwalala believes that their FKF Cup success can inspire the team to perform well in the remaining league matches.

“The recent wins in the FKF Cup are indeed a great confidence booster. As we approach the final matches of the season, maintaining that positive momentum and confidence will be crucial. We have trained well for Posta, so I believe we are in a strong position to compete effectively,” remarked Mwalala.

With only three matches left in the 2023/2024 Kenyan Premier League season, KCB is determined to secure maximum points against Posta Rangers, AFC Leopards, and City Stars to finish in a respectable position. Currently, the FKF Cup finalists are 11th in the table with 40 points from 31 matches.

However, the team has had a mixed run recently, winning once, drawing once, and losing three times in their last five outings.

The team played a friendly match against champions Gor Mahia over the weekend where they won 4-2, and Mwalala says his boys are indeed buoyed by the victory.

“We won over a well-oiled team over the weekend so I believe we are in a good position to claim the three points against Posta Rangers. We know their threat in offense and defense but, we are ready to beat them.

We anticipate a tough match. However, a win can only be the only foreseeable result,” added Mwalala.

Mwalala is expected to make minimal changes to his squad that started against Sharks in the FKF Cup – Striker Derrick Otanga, and Philemon Nyakwakwa are expected to pair up upfront while the diamond midifield of Henry Onyango, Brian Ochieng and Danson Namasaka is expected to start.

At the back, goalkeeper Farouk Shikhalo, Kevin Okumu, Haniff Wesonga, Francis Onyango, and Herit Mungai will feature for the Ruraka-based side.
