A local influencer was on Thursday charged at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi for allegedly publishing false information online.

Benson Malova Ashiko, known by his online alias Ash Papi, was charged with committing the offence contrary to the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act No. 5 of 2018.

The charges, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) says, stem from a post made on his X account, under the username @Mr_Papi5, on January 18, 2025, where he is accused of knowingly spreading false information.

“Ash Papi is accused of knowingly and unlawfully publishing false information on his X account, under the username Ash Papi @Mr_Papi5 on January 18, 2025,” the DCI said on Friday.

Ahiko pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted a cash bail of Ksh.20,000.

The case will be mentioned on February 19, 2025.
