Podcaster Oduor Jagero has set tongues wagging after dismissing lawyers as intellectually unremarkable, arguing that law is among the simplest professions anyone could pursue.
The controversial remarks came during a podcast episode in which Jagero was joined by a female guest who appeared visibly uncomfortable with the direction the conversation was heading.
What did Jagero say about lawyers?
Jagero did not hold back, questioning why society holds lawyers in such high intellectual regard.
“Why do people think that lawyers are smart? You are just reading one book,” he said, prompting an immediate objection from his guest.
He went further, describing the legal profession as repetitive and uninspiring.
“What exactly is law? I think it is the easiest thing on earth to practice. Why do people think that lawyers are smart? It is very repetitive and boring. Is it even literature?” he pressed.
The female guest refused to let the claims go unchallenged. She argued that law requires a specific skill set that not everyone possesses, pointing out that language is central to legal work.
“Anybody can — you just need to have gone to school to understand words and interpret them,” she said, appearing to partially agree before adding that language is the tool of the trade.
When Jagero pushed her to summarise in one sentence what a lawyer actually does in court, she responded:
“I am arguing with the Constitution as well as international law.”
Jagero, seemingly unimpressed, quipped:
“That is easy, right? For a smart person.”
The guest firmly disagreed, saying:
“No, it’s not.”
The clip circulated widely on social media, drawing a range of reactions from Kenyans who were split right down the middle.
@litiapendo sided with the podcaster, writing:
“I concur with Jagero. Doctors are smarter than lawyers.”
Not everyone was on board, though.
