Lang’ata MP Jalang’o has come out to address a moment from President William Ruto’s recent Nyanza tour that sent Kenyans into a frenzy online.
Footage shows him climbing into the boot area of a presidential security vehicle while Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi used the rear passenger door.
The clip spread quickly, with many reading the contrasting entries as a sign of differing political standing within the presidential entourage.
What did Jalang’o say about entering boot?
Jalang’o sat down with Ghetto Radio’s MajiMaji on Tuesday, September 22, to set the record straight.
The MP was firm that what people saw was not a standard boot.
“That vehicle is called Echo Charlie — the commander of the presidential security team. It is immediately in front of the president’s vehicle,” he explained during the studio interview.
He said by the time he reached the vehicle, their own transport had already departed. ”
At that point our vehicles had left. People usually leave rallies very quickly, and I opened the back door and entered,” he said, adding that being left behind was simply not an option.
“Even if I get into the boot, as long as I arrive.”
Jalang’o was also quick to point out that the rear section of the Echo Charlie is not an empty cargo space.
“The back has seats,” he said plainly.
He also touched on the discipline required around presidential security, noting that what looked casual in the footage was anything but.
“You cannot enter the vehicle anyhow. When you see Sudi turning into security and Farouk a photographer, it’s no joke.”
The MP wrapped up by reassuring the public that the Nyanza tour itself was well-organised.
“The campaign is easy because there is order and plans. Let not people worry — it was not the boot.”
The clip had already drawn plenty of commentary before Jalang’o could respond, and his explanation did not entirely convince everyone online.
