Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei, the Paris Olympic Games 10,000m champion, claimed victory in the New Delhi Half Marathon on Sunday. The 10,000m world record holder finished the race in 59 minutes and 46 seconds, narrowly beating Kenya’s Alex Matata, who came in second at 59 minutes and 50 seconds. Fellow Kenyan Nicholas Kipkorir secured third place with a time of 59 minutes and 57 seconds.
Cheptegei surged ahead in the final 500 meters, outpacing the Kenyan duo and crossing the finish line with evident joy and gratitude. Reflecting on his win, he credited his success to perseverance and self-motivation, saying, “It’s another milestone, and I want to give God gratitude for enabling me to confront and learn from these new marathon challenges.”
He also hinted at future ambitions, stating, “I look forward to competing in multiple half marathons before getting into the real 42 kilometers challenge.”
