The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has initiated the process of appointing a new Managing Director to replace Henry Ogoye, who currently serves in an acting capacity. Ogoye has been acting since August 27 last year, following the termination of Alex Gitari’s contract.

In an advertisement dated June 11, KAA stated that the MD will be employed on a contract basis for three years, with the option of renewal once, contingent upon satisfactory performance or reaching the mandatory retirement age, whichever occurs earlier.

Candidates vying for the position must hold a Bachelor’s degree in fields such as finance, economics, business management, marketing, statistics, engineering, social sciences, or a related field from a recognized institution. Additionally, a Master’s Degree is required.

Moreover, candidates must have completed a leadership course lasting not less than four weeks from a reputable institution, with certification in Aviation considered an added advantage. This comprehensive set of qualifications aims to ensure that the appointed individual possesses the necessary skills and expertise to effectively lead the Kenya Airports Authority.

“Successful candidate must have a minimum of 15 years working experience, 10 of which will be in a senior management or leadership position with hands-on experience and direct responsibility for developing and implementing strategic plans, generating substantial revenues, managing significant capital and operational budgets and delivering positive cash flows and profits,” it adds.

As the Managing Director and CEO of the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), the appointed individual will have several key responsibilities. Firstly, they will be accountable to the Board for the day-to-day management and coordination of activities within the Authority. This involves overseeing various aspects of operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.

Additionally, the MD/CEO will be responsible for providing the Board with sufficient, accurate, and timely information regarding the Authority’s operations, financial status, and overall performance. This information is essential for the Board to fulfill its governance objectives effectively.

Furthermore, the office holder will play a crucial role in ensuring that the Authority maintains adequate systems and processes for accountability, risk management, and internal control. They will need to ensure that all policies and operations adhere to legal, statutory, and regulatory guidelines.

Prior to his appointment as the Acting Managing Director, Henry Ogoye served as the Head of Corporate Planning at the agency. His predecessor, Alex Gitari, was terminated from his position along with Engineering Services General Manager Fred Odawo following a two-hour power blackout at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), which disrupted critical services.

These changes, announced by Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, also included the transfer of some senior managers within the Authority.
