The leaders, accompanied by several allies, attended a service at the church before addressing the media outside, where they urged opposition unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo said the opposition’s “only weapon” against the Kenya Kwanza administration is the ballot.
“The only weapon we have against Ruto is the voter’s card… We need to be united,” he said.
Muturi accused President Ruto of disrespecting religious leaders and opponents, and questioned the government’s record on roads and fuel prices.
“Ruto has no respect… He is only concerned with his appetite… Ruto is just one citizen of Kenya; he cannot dictate who Kenyans will vote for,” Muturi said, adding that the president was a “one-term leader.”
Speaking at Ruai Bypass, Kalonzo said President Ruto had attacked him a day earlier during a meeting with pastors at State House, accusing the president of focusing on personal insults instead of addressing fuel prices.
“Every time he wakes up, all he sees is Kalonzo… Instead of addressing the rising fuel prices, his job is to insult Kalonzo,” he said.
Kalonzo claimed Kenyans were still paying high fuel prices despite the government’s shift to a government-to-government importation framework.
“They are stealing from us because even with G2G fuel importation, fuel is still retailing at KSh 240,” he said.
He also accused the government of using goons and claimed justice for victims of the 2024 anti-finance bill protests would only be realised after those responsible are prosecuted.
“We will not allow him to compensate those he killed with 3 million… Compensation will only come after all those police officers who killed young people are jailed,” he said.
Muturi said the opposition would unite behind one candidate to defeat Ruto in 2027, and warned the electoral commission against being used to manipulate the poll.
“We, as the opposition, will unite and field only one candidate to send Ruto home,” he said.
Muturi also raised concerns over IEBC engagement with some parties and called for a new technology provider once the current contract expires.
“The Smartmatic contract with IEBC ends on the 21st… We will not allow them to steal the votes again,” he said.
