Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu got the best kind of birthday wake-up call on November 5, 2026 — her children sneaking into her bedroom with a glowing cake and a song.
The politician and lawyer posted the heartwarming clip to Instagram, filming it herself from beneath white bed covers as the bedroom door slowly creaked open.
The moment that had fans talking
Two small figures appeared in the doorway first. Her son, dressed in orange tiger-print pyjamas, and her daughter, sporting long pink braids and light-coloured pyjamas, walked in carefully balancing a small round white cake with four lit spiral candles. An adult woman followed close behind, smiling, as the children placed the cake gently on the bed.
The cake was frosted white and topped with fresh fruit and a chocolate plaque reading “Happy Birthday.” Off-camera laughter filled the room as the candles flickered. After the flames were blown out, the little girl stood proudly beside the bed, grinning. Two other women were also present, one holding a plate in readiness to serve.
It was a quieter, more personal celebration compared to the glamorous birthday posts Karen has shared in previous years. No elaborate photoshoots this time around — just home, children, and candlelight.
Who is Karen Nyamu?
Nyamu has served as a nominated member of the Senate of Kenya under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) since 2022. A graduate of the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law, she is also a single mother of three.
Her eldest daughter, Tiana, was born with DJ Saint Kevin. Her two younger children, Samuel Muchoki Junior and Taraya Wairimu, popularly known as Nimu, are with Mugithi singer Samidoh Muchoki.
A grateful mother
Karen has long been open about her faith, her pride in motherhood, and the complexity of balancing public life with raising a family. Last year, marking her 38th birthday on November 6, she reflected on her blessings in a candid post, writing:
“I’m actually so blessed I could cry. I have babies, a job that I prayed for, health, passion, and love. Life is lifeing. I’m grateful. God has been good to me.”
She also made a pointed pledge to herself:
“You don’t get to relive your kids’ childhood again. The biggest regret of a high achiever is missing their children’s lives. That’s not going to be me.”
Fans flooded the comments section under this year’s birthday video with warm messages, calling the surprise the cutest thing they had seen and praising the children for their thoughtfulness.
Many pointed out that amid the noise of Karen’s public life, moments like this reveal a softer side — a mother whose children love her deeply enough to wake her with a cake and a song.
