Kenya Power has announced a planned power maintenance exercise set to affect parts of three counties on Monday, May 18, 2026, leading to a day-long electricity blackout in the selected areas.
In a public notice on Sunday, May 17, 2026, the utility company said the maintenance will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. as part of routine system upgrades and network improvement works.
Good evening, kindly find the list of areas scheduled for power maintenance tomorrow (Monday, 18.05.2026),” Kenya Power wrote.
In the North Rift region, parts of Nandi County, including Kombe, Kipchabo, Kapkatet and nearby, customers will experience interruptions during the scheduled maintenance period.
In the Mt Kenya region, parts of Nyeri County will also be affected, with Wandumbi, Kamahoru and surrounding areas expected to go without power for the duration of the exercise.

In the Coast region, parts of Kwale County, including Melikubwa and Mackinon Road, will also be affected by the planned outage.
Kenya Power then advised residents in the affected areas to make necessary arrangements in advance, noting that the interruption is necessary to allow technicians to carry out maintenance works aimed at improving service delivery.

Sunday blackout
Previously, Kenya Power similarly announced a planned electricity maintenance affecting several areas across Nairobi County, Machakos County, and parts of the Western region on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
According to the notice, the power interruption was also part of scheduled maintenance works that took place at different times during the day.
In Nairobi County, parts of South C were affected from 9.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m.

The areas included Ole Sereni Hotel, The Curve, Next Gen Mall, Eka Hotel, Bandari Phases 1 and 2, Real Estate, Highway Estate, Amboseli Estate, Dafam, College of Insurance, Bellevue Apartments, Ministry of Fisheries, Mtihiani House, African Airline Association, Stockwell Homes, Kenya Re Apartments and adjacent customers.
In Machakos County, the interruption affected parts of Athi River from 9.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m.
Areas listed included Petrocity, Athi 55 Business Park, Mlolongo Phase 3, Kathangaita, Sabaki Anthena, Signature Mall and adjacent customers.
