Kenya Power lists parts of Kisumu County to experience blackout on Saturday, May 2

Kenya Power has announced a scheduled power interruption that will affect parts of Kisumu County on Saturday, May 2, 2026, as part of its routine maintenance programme.

In a public notice on Thursday, April 1, 2026, the utility company stated that the planned maintenance will take place in areas within the Western Region, specifically targeting sections of Kisumu County.

According to the notice, the power outage will affect Kisian and the surrounding areas, with electricity supply expected to be interrupted from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Areas listed to experience the blackout include Ojola Market, Kisian Market, Kisian Railway, the Rock area, and adjacent customers.

Kenya Power explained that the scheduled maintenance is part of ongoing efforts to improve service delivery and ensure the stability of the electricity network.

“PLANNED MAINTENANCE – 2ND MAY 2026. WESTERN REGION. PARTS OF KISUMU COUNTY. AREA. KISIAN. Saturday 02.05.2026. 8.30 A.M.-4.30 P.M. Ojola Mkt, Kisian Mkt, Kisian Railway, Rock & adjacent customers,” the statement read in part.

The company advised customers in the affected areas to plan accordingly during the outage period and to treat all electrical installations as live for safety purposes.

Customers seeking further information or assistance were encouraged to use Kenya Power’s USSD code *977# or contact the National Contact Centre through the provided support lines and email channels.

“Good evening, please receive the area listed for planned maintenance tomorrow (Saturday, 2nd May 2026). USSD. *977#,” Kenya Power wrote.

Power interruptions

Previously, on April 29, 2026, the utility company also announced planned power interruptions in several parts of the country.

In a notice shared on its official X account, Kenya Power said the scheduled outages were part of efforts to maintain and improve the electricity supply.

“Good Evening. The listed area will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow (29th April 2026). The interruption is part of network maintenance,” Kenya Power said.

The company advised customers to check the latest outage schedule through its online platforms.

The planned blackouts affected parts of Nairobi, Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, Nyeri and Taita Taveta counties.

In Nairobi, customers in parts of Spring Valley went without power from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

The affected places included part of Spring Valley, Bendera Lane and nearby customers.

Another outage hit parts of Kilimani along Ngong Road from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Areas listed include Coptic Hospital, China Centre, Muchai Drive, part of Kindaruma Drive and surrounding customers.

North Rift and Western regions

In Uasin Gishu County, parts of Kesses, Kipsamoo and Cheptiret lost power from 10.00 am to 3.30 pm.

Kenya Power said the interruption affected Kesses, Lelmolok, Kipsamoo, Cheptiret and neighbouring areas.

In Kakamega County, the outage affected Musaga and nearby centres from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Areas named in the notice included Samitsi, Malava Market, Malava District Hospital, Malichi, Kimangeti, Tumbeni and adjacent customers.
