A Kenyan man has shared an emotional reflection on grief after returning to a place he once called home, only to confront the painful reality of living without the woman who had shared his life for 13 years.
Araap Korir, who shared the touching message on Facebook, described the emptiness he experienced when he travelled without his wife, Casty Mems, for the first time in 13 years.
In the heartfelt post, Korir explained that although the familiar surroundings remained unchanged, everything felt different because the woman who had made the place special was no longer physically present.
“The walls are still standing, the familiar surroundings remain unchanged, and life, somehow, continues its routine. Yet, something profoundly beautiful is missing,” he wrote.
He admitted that returning to places where they had shared memories brought back painful reminders of their companionship.
According to Korir, ordinary moments that once brought happiness had become difficult to navigate because they reminded him of the person he could no longer share them with.

He reflected on how his wife’s presence had been woven into the smallest aspects of their lives, from conversations and laughter to shared responsibilities and the comfort of having someone beside him.
Korir observed that 13 years of togetherness could not simply be erased by the passage of time. He described grief as an experience that makes people realise how deeply love can remain even when someone is no longer physically present.
“Sometimes, it lives in an empty chair, a familiar corner, an unfinished conversation and a heart that still instinctively looks for someone who is no longer there,” he reflected.
Addressing Casty directly, Korir assured her that although she was no longer physically present, the places they had shared would forever carry her memories.
He also expressed his intention to hold on to the beautiful moments they experienced together as he gradually learns to navigate life without her.
“I will miss you in ways words may never adequately express. And as I learn to navigate this unfamiliar life, I will hold on to our beautiful memories, trusting God to give me strength for the days ahead,” he wrote.
He concluded his moving tribute with a powerful declaration that captured the depth of his loss, saying his wife might be absent from his sight but would never disappear from the story of his life.
