A woman who has spent years interpreting for some of Kenya’s most recognisable church figures has become an unlikely internet sensation after a clip of her speaking at an outdoor event went viral on TikTok.
In the video, filmed at what appears to be an open-air gathering with tents in the background, the woman steps up to a microphone flanked by two men in suits and launches into a detailed introduction of herself.
Interpreter’s viral moment sparks online debate
She describes herself as a worshipper, an intercessor, and an interpreter, before reeling off an impressive list of credentials.
“I’ve been an interpreter for Apostle James Maina Ng’ang’a for almost two years,” she said. “I’ve been an interpreter for the late Archbishop Gilbert Deya for more than three years.”
She added that she currently interprets for Apostle Chris Namale, and concluded by expressing gratitude for a work opportunity she had secured through a contact named Wilfred Marori.
The clip, posted on TikTok by @brightonchumba123, spread rapidly thanks to her impressive CV while addressing people.
