Kilgoris police and county rangers have intervened to rescue a middle-aged man from an angry crowd of livestock traders after he was suspected of stealing three cows from Shartuka Village and attempting to sell them at the Kilgoris market.
The man was locked in the county rangers’ revenue office, surrounded by the irate traders, until police officers arrived to ensure his safety.
Samson Lemayian, speaking on behalf of the traders, revealed that this was the man’s second offense. “He had been previously arrested and released for a similar crime,” Lemayian said. He urged the police to take decisive action against the suspect.
James Nkiok, another trader, voiced concerns that the incident might damage the reputation of livestock traders, potentially leading to the mistaken belief that they are involved in purchasing stolen animals. Despite this, Nkiok also called on security officers to handle the situation firmly to set a clear example.
The stolen cows were taken to the police station, and the suspect was detained for further investigation.
