Former Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi is giving Kenyans a front-row seat to his European adventure, and the internet has a lot to say about it.
On Tuesday, October 6, the veteran politician took to Facebook to share a photo of himself standing in front of the iconic Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy.
What Murungi said about his European trip
Murungi described the centuries-old structure as “one of the wonders of the world.”
His post came with a simple caption:
“At the leaning tower of Pisa, one of the wonders of the world,” and a “feeling happy” status that summed up the mood perfectly.
Italy was not the first stop on the former governor’s European itinerary. Before crossing into Italy, Kiraitu had been soaking up the sun along the shores of Valencia, Spain, where he shared a video capturing a massive cruise ship docked at the waterfront, surrounded by festivities.
Both his and his wife’s voices could be heard in the background as he took in the scene.
“It is a very exciting crowd, wow,” he said in the clip, clearly impressed by the lively atmosphere.
He has also shared plans to visit Vatican City, suggesting the trip is far from over.
Kenyans react
The posts quickly drew attention from Kenyans online, with followers and fans flooding the comments section with a mix of curiosity, admiration and a touch of humour.
Francis Mwakha Were:
“The tower was constructed by a blind prisoner.”
David Kinoti:
“What’s the history behind the leaning Tower of Pisa, honourable”
ERINGO SAM:
“What is wonderful about this?”
James Mutia:
“Chasing happiness is a real job”
Hilarry Muds:
“Wow, looks like floating affordable houses”
Kigome Anderson:
“Is that a single ship looking like all pipeline apartments combined?”
Carol Kawira:
“Enjoy yourselves, dears…is this a ferry ama?”
Nadiah Mukiri Mungania:
“Safe travels, Dad. Enjoy”
Kiraitu Murungi served as the governor of Meru County and has been a prominent figure in Kenyan politics for decades, having previously held senior cabinet positions in the Mwai Kibaki administration.
