A 23-year-old woman from Mwea, Kirinyaga County on Thursday drowned in a water canal while washing some vegetables.
The deceased, Tabitha Wanjiru; a resident of Ngurubani village, was reportedly cleaning some onions in the canal when she was swept away by its raging waters.
Confirming the incident, Mwea-East Sub-County Police Commander James Mutua, told Citizen Digital that the body of the deceased was discovered by boda boda operators plying their trade near the canal.
The boda boda operators initially mistook Wanjiru’s body for a child swimming in the canal but upon closer inspection, they discovered her lifeless body.
Investigations have since been launched to establish the exact cause of Wanjiru’s drowning.
Her body has since been moved to a local mortuary as authorities wait for the deceased’s kin to retrieve her remains.
