A Grade 10 student from Nyaribari Chache Constituency in Kisii County has been given a second chance at life and learning after a community rallied to clear her KSh 38,000 school fees balance at Sengera Girls Secondary School.
The teenager, who lost her father years ago, lives with a mother who depends on casual labour to keep the family afloat.
Request That Broke Hearts
When the school fees went unpaid, she was sent home, and the weight of that moment became unbearable. She reportedly attempted to take her own life before being rescued in time.
Her situation came to light after Kisii Hot TV Director Rogers Kakasungura learnt of her story and took it to his followers.
During a visit to the family, he noticed something that stayed with him: the girl had only been asking her grandmother for Ksh100 for basic shopping needs.
“Just 100 bob,” he said, describing the moment as deeply emotional.
Fans Clear the Fees Balance
Moved by what he witnessed, Kakasungura and those accompanying him allowed the teenager to pick out whatever shopping items she needed, an act she apparently could barely process.
For a young person who had been carrying so much, the gesture was a reminder that others were willing to stand in her corner.
Following the public appeal, messages of support poured in from Kakasungura’s followers. Within a short period, the full Ksh38,000 had been raised, clearing the path for her return to Sengera Girls.
“Many people have reached out to me, and I can now officially confirm that huyu tunarudisha shule Sengera Girls,” Kakasungura announced.
Call From US Changes Everything
Just when the story seemed to have reached its conclusion, a new development emerged when Kakasungura received a phone call from the US, where a well-wisher had decided to go further than clearing the immediate balance.
The caller offered to sponsor the student through to Grade 12, meaning she can now focus entirely on her education without the fear of fees disrupting her studies again.
“This morning I have received a call from the USA, and the girl has a new school fees sponsor to Grade 12. This is what God can do,” Kakasungura shared.
What began as a crisis triggered by a balance that would seem modest to many but was insurmountable for this family has ended with the teenager returning to class and a committed sponsor behind her.
