Kenyan influencer and entrepreneur Risper Faith has raised conversation online after opening up about the realities of giving birth in the United States, revealing that maternity care can cost millions of shillings depending on the type of delivery and insurance coverage.

The entrepreneur, who is currently in her third pregnancy, shared her experience during a TikTok live session, where she cautioned those who believe giving birth in America is a simple or inexpensive process.

According to Risper, a normal delivery in the US can cost about Ksh2 million, while a Caesarean section may rise to between Ksh5 million and Ksh6 million, especially for people without proper insurance or legal residency status.

“Giving birth in America is expensive. A normal delivery is about Ksh2 million, and a Caesarean section can cost around Ksh5 million,” she said.

She questioned how non-citizens without insurance or Social Security coverage manage maternity expenses, noting that healthcare costs can quickly become overwhelming. Risper also maintained that many people underestimate the financial burden because they have not experienced it firsthand.
