A senior manager at KTDA’s Rorok Factory narrowly escaped injury after a mob of residents in Konoin Sub-county, Bomet County, attacked the vehicle he was travelling in, mistakenly believing its occupants were car thieves.

The incident occurred on Monday in Saseta area, Mogogosiek Sublocation.

According to a police report filed at Konoin Police Station under OB 02/29/06/2026 at 3:58 a.m., officers on routine patrol responded after receiving reports of a mob justice incident.

When they arrived, they found about 100 residents armed with crude weapons surrounding a white Mercedes-Benz, registration number KDB 049S, which belongs to the KTDA manager.

Police said the crowd had already deflated the vehicle’s tyres and extensively damaged it after a false alarm alleged that the occupants were suspected vehicle thieves.

One of the occupants, identified as Robert Ng’eno, 50, sustained injuries to his forehead during the attack.

Police intervened, dispersed the crowd and rescued the injured man before the situation escalated further. He was taken to Mogogosiek Health Centre, where he was treated.

The damaged vehicle was later towed to Konoin Police Station for safekeeping as investigations got underway.

Police also documented and photographed the scene.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Authorities have cautioned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands, urging residents to report suspected criminal activity to security agencies instead of resorting to mob justice, which can result in injuries, destruction of property and the targeting of innocent people.
