AFC Leopards Secretary General (SG) Gilbert Andugu has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to defeat bitter rivals Nzoia Sugar in the upcoming Madaraka Day Cup derby clash this Saturday at the refurbished Masinde Muliro Stadium in Bungoma.
Despite missing out on both the FKF-PL and FKF Cup titles in the current campaign, Leopards see the Madaraka Cup as an opportunity to secure silverware.
However, they face a tough challenge in Nzoia Sugar, who have already been relegated to the National Super League with three matches remaining.
“We will be in Bungoma in the newly refurbished Masinde Muliro Stadium on Saturday against Nzoia Sugar.
“It is a stadium that was earlier known as Kanduyi Grounds, and we are confident the boys will give their best at 3:00 pm.
“We want to invite everyone to come and be entertained,” Andugu said.
According to Andugu, the Tomas Trucha-coached side will have the opportunity to field fringe players who have not been getting minutes in top-flight matches.
“This game is going to give fans a chance to watch our players who have not been getting playing time, like Koloti (Christopher) and others. But be rest assured that it is going to be electric enough to give fans what they deserve.
“We have spoken to the coach, and he has assured us that this is the opportunity to give these players minutes to show fans and the technical bench what they are made of,” he added.
Andugu has also hailed the club’s fan base for their unwavering support despite their underwhelming season.
“We want to appreciate our fans for being behind the team and following us wherever we have gone this season to cheer us and give us that support. This season has shown that Leopards fans are heavy and alive with the team, which is something we will forever be grateful about.”
