Former Machakos County First Lady and author Lilian Ng’ang’a has raised questions over the availability and popularity of babysitting services in the country, noting that the sector appears limited despite demand from busy parents.
In a statement shared on her Instagram page on Thursday, May 21, 2026, she noted that she has rarely come across structured babysitting services locally.
“Babysitting is not popular here, and I wonder why,” she stated.
She noted that while childcare is needed, especially among working parents, formal babysitting agencies seem few and far between, with only one she personally knows of.
“I know an agency that does BS, but that’s the only one I’ve heard of/seen around,” she added.

Ng’ang’a then invited her followers to share information on available babysitters or agencies, or even individuals offering part-time childcare services.
“Would you use a babysitter? Do you know of babysitting agencies? Share them here or even someone whose work/part-time work is a BS,” she posed.
She emphasised that trust and safety should remain central when considering childcare arrangements.
“Background checks, health, and safety remain key,” she stated.
This comes months after she said children should not be taken to school before they can handle basic personal needs on their own, especially using the bathroom.
In a statement shared via her Instagram account on March 18, 2026, the former Machakos County First Lady stressed that parenting responsibilities should not be pushed onto teachers.
She pointed out that some children are enrolled in school too early, leaving teachers to take on roles that go beyond teaching. According to her, classrooms are turning into spaces where educators are forced to manage tasks that should have already been handled at home.
“Children should not start school before they can use the bathroom on their own. Teachers have no business potty training kids. Let’s parent. Let the teachers teach,” she said.
