Light to moderate rainfall is expected in several counties, according to the latest five-day weather advisory released by the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The official forecast, issued on October 6, 2026, and valid from October 8 to October 12, 2026, points to shifting weather patterns across many parts of the country.
Residents in Central Kenya, Nairobi, the Coastal strip, and the Lake Victoria Basin should keep their umbrellas handy as wet conditions line up for both morning and afternoon hours.
Rainy spells and chilly nights ahead across key regions
Nairobi residents can prepare for light morning rains every day through Monday, October 12, 2026, with moderate afternoon showers expected on Friday, October 9, 2026, and Saturday, October 10, 2026.
Daytime temperatures in the capital will peak at 28°C, while nighttime minimums will average around 14°C. Nearby counties including Kiambu, Murang’a, Nyeri, and Embu will similarly experience light morning rains and moderate afternoon showers.
In Nyandarua County, nighttime temperatures will fall to a chilly 5°C on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and Monday, October 12, 2026, making it one of the coldest spots in the country.

Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River, and Lamu, will see light to moderate showers in the morning and at night.
Daytime maximum temperatures along the coast will remain warm, reaching 31°C in Mombasa on Thursday, October 8, 2026, while Taita Taveta will hit 32°C before light rains set in.
Afternoon thunderstorms and hot spells in northern Kenya
Counties across Western Kenya and the Rift Valley, including Kakamega, Bungoma, Kisumu, Kisii, Kericho, and Baringo, will experience afternoon light to moderate showers accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Morning hours in these regions will feature sunny intervals before rain clouds build up later in the afternoon.
In contrast, northern Kenya will remain largely hot and dry. Turkana County will record daytime maximum temperatures of 38°C on Thursday, October 8, 2026, while Mandera County will see temperatures climb to 37°C on Monday, October 12, 2026.
The weather authority reminded the public that short-term shifts remain common during this period and this 5-day forecast should be used in conjuction with the daily (24-hour) forecasts.
