A section of elders from the Luo community have condemned the threats that the government has been issuing towards Azimio leader Raila Odinga and are now demanding that he be respected.
Led by the vice chairman of the Luo Council of Elders Mzee James Ayaga, the elders have stated that they cannot remain silent when Odinga’s life is being threatened by the same government that is supposed to protect its citizens.
Mzee Ayaga stated that Odinga must be respected by those in leadership, adding that the demonstrations that he has been spearheading are provided for by the constitution.
His sentiments were echoed by the national Organizing Secretary of the Luo Council of elders Mzee Vitalis Awandu Ondewe, who equally cautioned President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua against the threats to the opposition leader.
Mzee Awandu warned that they need to be very careful as they will bear the responsibility should anything happen to Odinga.
They were speaking in Rarieda constituency where Jenifer Auma Awendo condemned the excessive force that the police have been using to counter demonstrations in the country, stating that it has been very painful seeing the police killing peaceful demonstrators.
She equally condemned the government’s move to withdraw the security details of the opposition leaders and demanded that Odinga’s guards need to be reinstated.
