Meru University Council members have been suspended with effect from March 9.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu noted that in two days Meru University council’s term comes to an end.

This is amid the suspension of Meru University VC Romanus Odhiambo on grounds of poor performance.

“The council’s term comes to a lapse on March 9. The ministry is taking necessary steps to constitute a successor council,” Machogu said, in a statement.

Before their dismissal, Machogu directed the Bosire Mwebi-led council to reinstate Odhiambo saying his suspension had ill motives.

“The ministry directs the university council to rescind the decision to send Odhiambo on terminal leave and to appoint an acting VC,” Machogu said.

Machogu directed that the council ensures the embattled VC resumes his duties.

“The university council is directed to facilitate the resumption of Odhiambo as VC with immediate effect, in any case before the closure of business on March,7,” he said.

The council led by chairman Bosire Mwebi on February 27 suspended VC Odhiambo.

Other council members include Muriira M’Mbwiria, Stephen Kimani, Dick Waswa, Pauline Jeruto, Naomi Kipuri, Paul Mungai, and Damaris Nyasuguta (Treasury).
