The lone Kenyan left in the 2023 Magical Kenya Open Mutahi Kibugi completed his third round on par 71 with a collective 3 under par 210 score and tied on position 44 following his feat on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at the Muthaiga Golf Club.
“I am obviously happy with my performance though I started off a bit shaky. I had to dig in and scramble points to stay alive. Mutahi stated
“Some of my putts were inadequate but when I got opportunities, I made them count especially in hole 18 infront of my crowd. I am looking forward to an interesting end on Sunday of which I hope to better my performance,” he said.
An elated Mutahi who spoke to the press after finishing his round has told of a good three-day run and hoped to make it bigger on the final run Sunday.
Kibugu, who is a debutant in this tournament, was hampered from a better score when he dropped shots on the 4th, 5th and 17th holes, but he made up for those with three birdies in the 6th, 12th and 18th hole.
The home player was always being followed by a frenzied crowd who charged and shouted his name every time he sunk a putt. At the 18th hole, he called in the referees to check on where the ball lay after his tee shot, which he says was a cheeky move.
He had a chance to get an eagle on the par five 18th hole but his putt stopped an inch from the pin.
His total of 210 came after posting a score of 68 on Day 1,71 on Day 2 and 71 on Day 3.
